Priorities & What Matters

Although I don’t often have much time to reflect this time of year, I pondered recently on the parallels between tax season for a CPA like me and the NCAA “March Madness” basketball tournament.  Like many challenging things in life, the trick in basketball games/tournaments as well as fairly long tax seasons is to maintain focus, pace yourself and to take much needed “timeouts” throughout the game/tournament (which allows you to maintain focus and efficiency for the long haul).

Unfortunately, my ASU Sun Devils bowed out early last night from the NCAA tournament (first round one and done) so they’ll have plenty of opportunity to rest now until next season.  However hard it is for me to say, I wish the team from down south well as they begin their pursuit of a long run in the tournament as they have earned their number one seed.  They, like me in the heat of tax season, must be persistent and keep fighting through spells of discouragement and exhaustion in order to be successful.  I think we perform best when we make time to stop and reflect from time to time on the experiences that are ours and the blessings we enjoy.

This life is often too short and the challenges we must face often leave us asking why.  My wife’s family had the unfortunate experience recently of losing a son, brother and dad when my brother-in-law died suddenly in a motorcycle accident.  When something of this nature occurs, it definitely helps put matters into perspective for this life.  Taxes are a small item in the overall scheme of things when put in this perspective.  Although relatively small, if tax payment and return filing obligations are not taken care of on a timely basis, the negative effects can have long-lasting and painful effects for the taxpayer.

At Weech Financial, our goal is to reduce your anxiety and stress related to accounting and tax matters by helping you develop a structure that not only keeps you in compliance with tax laws, but more importantly allows you to understand and strategically plan for your future.  By better understanding how your business/financial matters work and by knowing what triggers can proactively be pulled, you can improve your short and long term results and obtain financial peace.  I have had the pleasure of working with many new clients over the years that felt they were in disarray related to their financial and tax situation.  I have been able to assist them in first analyzing their current situation and then plotting a plan to get them where they need to be.  This type of work is so rewarding – to help others with something they thought they might never have control of.

With the initial corporate deadline having passed and the April 15th partnership and individual deadline quickly approaching, keep a calm approach and this, too, will pass.  We can help ensure that you are well taken care of in this aspect of life.  Contact us if we can be of service to you.  This life is too short to stress over taxes!
